JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Gold Fields has appointed Rick Menell as deputy chairperson.

He had more than 36 years’ experience in the mining industry, including as president of the Chamber of Mines of South Africa, president and CEO of Teal Exploration & Mining and executive chairperson of Anglovaal Mining and Avgold.

Menell currently also served as director of Sibanye Gold, Weir Group, Rockwell Diamonds and a number of other unlisted companies and nonprofit organisations, as well as senior adviser to Credit Suisse.

“Rick has vast experience in the global mining industry and a particular strong knowledge of the South African mining sector. This will benefit Gold Fields, as it continues to create value for its shareholders and other stakeholders,” commented Gold Fields chairperson Cheryl Carolus.
